History

DAS was created by Walter E. Meneses, publisher of La Sonrisa Latina.

• July 3, 2006 DAS was incorporated in the State of California # 2886256
• December 2006 DAS obtained 501 C 3 status # 35-2270419 from the IRS. Donations to DAS are tax deductible!
• December 2006 DAS launches first pilot school at Otay Elementary
• February 2007 Second school - Knox Elementary - is included in DAS regular program
• September 2007 YMCA Jackie Robinson supports DAS, sponsoring four schools: Rodriguez, Fulton, Audubon and Burbank
• October 2007 YMCA Copley sponsors 10 elementary schools
• January 2008 Los Altos Elementary is included in the program
• April 2008 YMCA Vista Academy joins the program
• August 2008 YMCA Border View sponsors Silver Wing Elementary School
• October 2008 Mann Middle School and Rohr Elementary School join the program

DAS has provided dance classes to 26 schools across San Diego, employing over 54 dance instructors and reaching over 1500 children.
